Meyer Burger Receives 200 Million Euro Subsidy for Expansion of 3.5GW Heterojunction Cell and Module Project

According to reports, recently, Meyer Burger's "HOPE" project (European High Efficiency Onshore Photovoltaic Module Production) has obtained the subsidy qualification of the European Innovation Fund. The project is one of 11 projects selected by the European Union in the field of "clean technology manufacturing", with a subsidy of 200 million euros.

It is reported that the funds will be used to expand the company's 3.5GW solar cell and solar module production projects in Germany or Spain. According to the European Commission, the project will introduce new innovative heterojunction (HJT) technology to produce photovoltaic modules with longer life and higher efficiency.

Gunter Erfurt, CEO of Meyer Burger, said: "We are delighted that the European Commission is willing to support our project. The EU is not only contributing to the decarbonization of the energy system and industrial transformation. It is also investing in the supply chain of the solar industry."

In addition, in the field of photovoltaic production, Norway's Norsun company has also received an investment of 54 million euros, which will be used to expand the company's solar wafer production capacity. And Norsun and Meyer Burger have signed a solar wafer supply partnership.

It is reported that the total appropriation of the EU Innovation Fund is 3.6 billion euros, which comes from the carbon quota trading of the EU-European technical assistance system. It aims to directly contribute to the decarbonization of Europe, and the selection process for decarbonization projects across the EU took four months. The European Commission will issue grant notifications in a formal process, expected to be completed by the end of the year.
